Johnson takes Texarkana
The "Racin Cajun", Jason Johnson showed a clean pair of heels to
take wins in both his heat and feature race in the Gulf Southern
ASCS showdown at Texarkana Speedway on Friday night.
Driving the Lanny Row owned 41 Wesmar powered Eagle Chassis
Johnson started his heat from position six. With cars headed in
all directions and banging wheels Johnson took the unaccustomed
low line early to be running in second behind Chris Sweeney. With
four laps to run Sweeny got loose and that was all that was needed
for Johnson to take the lead.
Travis Rilat slid Johnson going into one and two of the final
lap to take the lead only to have Johnson return the favor through
three and four to take the heat win.
The immaculately presented number 41 racecar now proudly
supported Chuck DeCrane and Custom Equipment Design started the
feature race of the quarter mile clay oval from position two.
In what was an extremely entertaining race Jason Sides and
Johnson entertained the crowd with skilful maneuvering through
traffic whilst continuing to slide each other.
Sides looking to have the race run and won until he slide up
and over the cushion in three and four with only two laps to run.
This left the door open for Johnson to power away and take his
fifth ASCS win for the season.
Johnson has been the most frequent ASCS victory lane visitor
now with five triumphs, including an Oklahoma City National Tour
double and a Gulf South weekend sweep.
"We had a bit of trouble in our heat race when we dropped a
cylinder with lead shorting out otherwise the car is travelling
real nice. The guys are giving me great car each night and we are
having a lot of fun" explained Johnson.
The team now wash and prepare as they travel to Fast Trax
Speedway, Chatham, Louisiana for round two of the Gulf South vs
Mid- South Showdown tomorrow night.

Jason Johnson continued to narrow the points lead in the National
ASCS Championship with a sensational second placing behind Nick
Smith in the 25 lap event at Poplar Bluff Speedway, Missouri
tonight.
Finishing less then a car length behind the winner Johnson
continued with his fine form of the previous weekend where he took
out back to back feature wins. Starting from position four Johnson
worked his way forward and catching Smith briefly in lapped traffic.
A red light stoppage on lap 13 for the flipping Jan Howard had
Johnson on the tail of Smith. The final circuits had the pair dice
